Epoxy resin flooring is an industrial strength surface coating material commonly used in warehouses, factories and the manufacturing sector. We install epoxy resin flooring as both coatings and as specialist systems. These include anti-slip epoxy resin flooring as well as self-levelling and decorative resin flooring. Epoxy resin as a material is a cost-effective flooring product which is tough against constant use.
An epoxy resin floor paint is one of the most common types of resin flooring. It is mainly found in an industrial setting but due to its decorative options is often found in commercial and domestic as well. Monarch are epoxy resin flooring contractors based in and around Derbyshire and Yorkshire with main offices in Sheffield, Dronfield and a further office in Leigh, Lancashire.
We install this type of resin as well as polyurethane and polyaspartic and have been doing so for the last 30 years. For a no obligation quote for epoxy resin get in touch with us through our contact page or fill out our simple resin flooring quote form.
When trying to work out what resin floor coating product best suits your needs it is vital to have all the facts. Epoxy resin is the most well known industrial floor toppings as it is a cost-effective choice which still provides a strong finish. It has certain levels of chemical resistance, can have anti-slip properties, has decorative options and provides a seamless, smooth finish.
However, if for example, you are needing a floor for a brewery, then a polyurethane has a higher chemical resistance so would be more suited. It all depends on what kind of floor you need and what you need that floor to do for you. If you are having trouble choosing what resin flooring you should get installed, Monarch also provides free technical advice to help you make the right choice.

Monarflake is a decorative epoxy floor system. This system is a combination of coloured resin, clear resin and a customised blend of flakes. This produces a speckled look which has a busy appearance making any future scratches hidden.

Monarquartz is a decorative epoxy floor screed which can be designed to many colour variations much like Monarflake. It offers high levels of durability as well as its decorative properties. It is widely used in the commercial flooring sector as well as domestic garage coatings.
Monarflow is suitable for use in light manufacturing, electrical component assembly, food and drinks processing, workshops and maintenance areas, aircraft hangers, power stations, warehouses and storage areas. Monarseal 322V is a high performance, water-dispersible epoxy coating for the treatment of floors and walls. As an epoxy product, it also contains no solvents so has very low odour.
As epoxy is one of the most common it is used in many settings. However, the most common area which you can find an epoxy floor is in the automotive sector. This can be within commercial garages and MOT bays as well as the more decorative epoxy products which feature in car showrooms and domestic garages. Two of our products you will find within this sector is Monargrip and Monarcoat 700. Monargrip is an anti-slip flooring system with non slip properties and Monarcoat 700 is a resin line marking product.
The Monargrip resin system is a method of introducing quartz sand between the layers of resin to create a level of grip. Together with the resin, the quartz sand creates a gripped texture which gives high levels of slip resistance. These levels of vital in some industries as part of their health and safety guidelines. Within automotive epoxy, as a result of this product, the floor will have more tread for tires and higher slip resistance in both wet and dry areas.
Monarcoat 700 as a line marking tool creates the MOT bays, Hatched areas as well as being used as gangway line marking to divide vehicle traffic. An oil tolerant primer can also be used in garages to protect the floor from spills. Take a look at our automotive page for more on epoxy as an automotive flooring option.
Scientifically speaking ‘epoxy resins, also known as polyepoxides, are a class of reactive prepolymers and polymers which contain epoxide groups.
Epoxy resins may be reacted (cross-linked) either with themselves through catalytic homopolymerisation, or with a wide range of co-reactants including polyfunctional amines, acids (and acid anhydrides), phenols, alcohols and thiols (usually called mercaptans)’.
This refers to the process of epoxy hardeners matching with the correct epoxy base to form an epoxy coating which cures in a certain time as per each product.
To conclude, there are many things which you need to look at before you install a resin floor. It is key to make sure that you take a look at which resin coating best suits your own needs. This may be as a strong floor coating, a non-slip industrial flooring option or as an epoxy self-levelling floor. As well as being the most common resin product, epoxy is also the more cost-effective option. It creates a floor which is even and smooth with the option to have coved skirting. As a result of coved skirting the floor will be even more easy to clean and sanitise as no bacteria will get trapped in edges of the floor.
