Line Marking Installation | Motherwell Workshop

Project Overview:

Monarch Resin Floors recently completed a line marking installation within a commercial vehicle workshop in Motherwell, Scotland.

The project involved the installation of high visibility traffic guidance lines and hazard markings across a newly constructed concrete floor. The markings were designed to clearly define inspection pits, service lanes and operational zones within the workshop environment.

Clear floor marking plays an important role in commercial vehicle workshops where large vehicles, equipment and personnel operate within the same space. Properly designed markings support safe vehicle movement, improve visual zoning and help maintain an organised working environment.

Scope of Work

The project involved the installation of a comprehensive line marking system across the workshop floor following mechanical preparation of the concrete substrate. Preparation included diamond grinding the new concrete slab to create a suitable mechanical key for the coating system. This process removes surface laitance and ensures proper adhesion of the marking system to the substrate.

Once preparation was complete, the line marking system was installed using Monarcoat 700 Product, a durable epoxy coating designed for industrial floor marking applications. The marking layout was installed in accordance with the client’s drawings and operational requirements for heavy vehicle movement within the workshop.

Installed markings included:

Chevron markings were installed at 150mm width with 150mm centres, while the traffic lines were installed at 100mm width to suit the scale and visibility requirements for HGV vehicle movement.

Installation Considerations

The project was completed on a brand new concrete slab, which required careful preparation to ensure long term adhesion of the marking system.

One of the key challenges during installation was low ambient temperature conditions within the workshop environment. Cold temperatures can extend curing times for epoxy coatings, which can influence installation phasing and programme sequencing.

To manage this, the installation programme was adjusted to accommodate the extended curing times between phases. This ensured the coatings were allowed sufficient time to cure correctly without compromising the installation quality.

Despite the challenging temperature conditions, the works were successfully completed within the required programme and in time for the scheduled handover of the facility.

Completed Result

The completed installation delivered a clean, high visibility floor marking system tailored to the operational layout of the workshop. The red and white chevron markings provide clear visual warning around inspection pits, while the yellow traffic guidance lines define vehicle routes and working zones across the workshop floor.

The result is a clearly organised workshop environment that supports safe vehicle movement, defined workspaces and improved operational visibility. When combined with proper substrate preparation and durable coating systems, professionally installed line marking can provide long lasting performance in high traffic workshop environments.
