Monarch Resin Floors recently completed a flooring installation in Sheffield for a long-standing repeat client. This project presented significant challenges due to the condition of the existing floor, which was heavily saturated with oil and covered in very old, well-bonded coatings. Despite these issues, our team delivered a robust resin flooring solution that overcame these obstacles and delivered a safe, durable, and high-performance surface.
Challenge: Oily, Coated Concrete Slab
The existing floor had endured years of heavy use, leaving it deeply contaminated with oil. The old coatings were extremely well bonded, making preparation especially demanding. To address this, we focused on creating a thorough preparation plan and selecting products that could bond effectively to such oily conditions.
Solution: Oil-Tolerant Resin Flooring System
We designed a tailored approach to ensure the new resin system would perform reliably in this environment.
As a result, the project involved several key steps:
- Preparation: Our team diamond ground the old coatings, to create a clean, textured, paint-free surface.
- Additional Grinding: Oil continued to bleed back through the saturated slab, so we carried out a second grind to stabilise the surface before priming.
- Oil-Tolerant Primer: We immediately applied Monarprime OT, our oil-tolerant primer, to stabilise the floor and prevent future bonding issues.
- Resin Application: Finally, we installed two coats of Monarcoat 720 in RAL 7004, finishing with a back roll of non-slip additive to enhance safety.
Outcome: A Durable, Non-Slip Surface
The completed flooring installation covered approximately 850m². The client now benefits from a safe, reliable, and professional finish that will withstand the daily demands of the workshop environment.
