Industrial Resin Flooring Installation | Preston
Project Overview:
Monarch Resin Floors completed approximately 800m² of industrial resin flooring across multiple areas within an industrial facility in Preston.
The project presented an interesting specification challenge, with three separate areas comprising different substrates and flooring requirements. These included a timber board mezzanine, an existing concrete slab and a smaller area requiring a 10mm pumped floor installation before the final resin system could be applied.
Each area required its own preparation and flooring build up, while a consistent RAL 7005 finish was used throughout to provide a clean and uniform appearance across the facility. The full installation was completed over five days for a repeat client.
Scope of Work
The project covered three separate areas totalling approximately 800m², with each presenting different substrate conditions and therefore requiring its own preparation method and resin flooring specification. While the build ups varied between the three areas, each was finished in RAL 7005 to create a consistent appearance throughout the facility. Existing joints were also reinstated using flexible polyurethane sealant as part of the completed works.
The individual specifications for each area are outlined below.
Area One
- 78m² Pumped Floor Area
- The first 78m² area was mechanically prepared by diamond grinding before the application of a primer coat.
- A 10mm pumped floor was then installed to create the required base for the resin flooring system. This was followed by a coat of Monarseal 322 water based epoxy and finished with Monarcoat 720 high build epoxy resin.
Area Two
- 325m² Timber Board Mezzanine
- The timber board mezzanine required a different approach due to the existing substrate.
- The 325m² area received specialist surface preparation before the application of two coats of Monarseal 322 water based epoxy resin.
Area Three
- 389m² Concrete Slab
- The existing concrete slab was mechanically prepared using diamond grinding to provide a suitable surface for the new coating.
- Following preparation, two coats of Monarcoat 720 high build epoxy resin were applied across the 389m² area.
Installation Considerations
One of the main considerations on this project was the variation between the existing substrates. Industrial facilities can contain several different floor constructions, particularly where mezzanines, alterations or previous flooring works form part of the building. Applying one standard flooring specification across every area is therefore not always appropriate.
For this project, the concrete slab could be mechanically prepared by diamond grinding before receiving the Monarcoat 720 system, while the timber board mezzanine required a different preparation method and coating specification. The 78m² area required a more substantial flooring build up, incorporating a 10mm pumped floor before the final epoxy systems were applied.
Careful preparation and individual specifications for each area allowed the different substrates to be treated appropriately while maintaining a consistent RAL 7005 appearance across the facility. The complete 800m² installation was delivered within five days.
The finished Floor
The completed installation provides approximately 800m² of hard wearing industrial resin flooring across the facility. Although the three areas required different preparation methods and resin flooring specifications, the use of RAL 7005 throughout provides a consistent appearance between the individual spaces.
The completed concrete areas provide a smooth, high build epoxy finish, while the timber board mezzanine has received a resin coating system appropriate to its different substrate construction. Reinstating the existing joints with flexible polyurethane sealant also allowed the necessary joints within the floor to be retained as part of the completed installation.
Overall, the project demonstrates how different flooring systems can be used within the same industrial facility to accommodate variations in the existing substrate without compromising the consistency of the finished environment.

Industrial Resin Flooring for Existing Facilities
Existing industrial facilities do not always have one consistent floor construction. Concrete slabs, mezzanine floors, previous repairs and altered areas can all require different approaches to preparation and resin flooring specification.
At Monarch Resin Floors, we assess the existing substrate, condition of the floor and requirements of each area before recommending a suitable preparation method and resin system.
Our services include mechanical floor preparation, pumped and self levelling flooring, epoxy resin coatings, floor repairs and jointing, allowing different elements of an industrial flooring project to be managed as part of the complete installation.
If you’re planning an industrial flooring refurbishment or have a facility containing multiple substrate types, our team can provide technical advice and arrange a site assessment.
